Jerry Rhyce Fritz, 88, of Providence passed away at his home on Sunday February 5, 2023, with his family by his side.
He was born on April 20, 1934, in Providence, KY, the son of the late Carl Nelson Fritz, and Nevelyn Wanda Villines. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years JoAnna Fritz on October 19, 2019.
Mr. Fritz was a member of the Providence First Baptist Church, Providence Masonic Lodge #148 F&AM; Lifetime member of the American Legion Post #289 in Clay; Lifetime member of the VFW Post # 5484 in Providence; he graduated from Providence High School Class of 51, He graduated from Murray State University in 1963, and got his Masters in 1966. He retired as the Principal of Broadway Elementary after 20 years, he quit substitute teaching in Hopkins, Union, Crittenden, and Webster County to take care of his wife, He enjoyed hunting squirrels, rabbits, frog gigging, dove hunting, playing golf, he was a NASCAR fan and a KY Colonel. He was an avid UK Basketball fan, spending time with his grandchildren and going to their ballgames, they operated Jerry’s Drive IN for many years, he enjoyed going to the beach, and spending time with all of his nieces and nephews. His special friend Heather Shelton, he could not have made it without you.
Mr. Fritz is survived by his children, Jeri Anna Fritz of Louisville, KY; Joe Rhyce (Johnetta) Fritz of Henderson, KY; Jeanne (Dr. Sean) Ladson of Louisville, KY; Jon Fritz of Providence, KY; grandchildren, Carla Brooke Foster, Jacob Fritz, Lily Ladson, Lukas Ladson, Lola Ladson, Sophia Fritz, Emma Fritz, Jera Chappell, and John Parsons, great grandchildren, Jaida Burden, Kori Jones, Keegan Smith, Bella Smith, Karsyn Chappell, Jayse Chappell, Sawyer Parsons, Dylan Parsons.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday February 9, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Providence with Bro. Mack Gibson officiating with entombment to follow in the Lakeview Mausoleum.
Visitation will be on Wednesday February 8, 2023, from 4:00PM until 8:00PM at Melton Funeral Home with Masonic Rites being conducted at 7:30PM, and from 10:00AM until the service hour on Thursday February 9, 2023, at the church.
